A Real Step to Border Security

PHOENIX – Don Goldwater today announced support, with modifications, of a plan brought forward by Texas Governor Rick Perry that will begin attacking the illegal invasion of our country. Governor Perry earlier this week stated, “Cuts in federal homeland security funding and a rise in reports of border violence have demonstrated that Texas (Arizona) cannot wait for Washington, D.C., to act." Goldwater already includes a modified version of the Perry Plan in the Goldwater Reform Immigration Plan (GRIP). It is important to note that this provision of the Goldwater plan does not replace any of the other components, but enhances the total system. The GRIP provisions are available at; Goldwaterforgovernor.org.

Goldwater stated, “I call on Governor Napolitano to take decisive steps now to secure our border against the invasion that is destroying the private property of Arizonans, damaging national parks, national monuments and wildlife reserves, while causing dangerous criminal activity against our citizens and resulting in multiple deaths in our deserts. It’s time to stop pandering to special interest voting blocs.”

“My plan would allow trained and certified volunteers to monitor live video on the internet from night vision cameras installed on private and state land along our southern border. Specific camera location as well as a secure reporting link would be restricted to people who have been trained and received security clearances to prevent nefarious use of the information. The only difference between this plan and the Neighborhood Watch, Fight Back and Civil Defense programs funded for decades by local, state and federal budgets is the use of modern electronic technology.”

Goldwater continued, “It’s Time for the governor to do more than complain about the lack of federal action. It’s Time for the governor to do more than nit- pick the plans of others. It’s time for the governor to stop working against the will of the people and fully implement Proposition 200. It’s Time for the governor to bring the resources of that office to make our streets safe and our homes secure. It’s Time that Arizona is no longer at the top of the nation’s crime statistics. It’s Time for the governor to provide leadership on the issue of securing the border against illegal entry – the number one area of concern to the voters of Arizona.

“Unfortunately for the citizens of Arizona, the harsh reality is that this governor is not likely to do anything to address these issues other than political pandering and media opportunities that are designed and scripted to hide her lack of leadership. Therefore, the only way to change the policies of the governor’s office is to change the occupant of the governor’s office.

It’s Time for the current governor to start packing and return to Washington unemployed. As the leading Republican candidate for governor, I am confident that the change in the governor’s office will occur as the people of this state become more and more aware of her complete and utter failure to “protect and defend” as stated in the Oath of Office.

Prop. 200 leaders who are helping me to restore pride in our government.” Go to Goldwaterforgovernor.org to see how you can elect a governor who will provide the leadership for the safety and security of the taxpayers and legal voters of Arizona.
