GOLDWATER: GOVERNOR VETO FURTHER RISKS SAFETY OF
ARIZONA
Don Goldwater, the leading Republican candidate for
Governor and author of the Goldwater Reform Immigration
Plan (GRIP), criticized the Governor's veto yesterday of
SB1157 that would have permitted local law
enforcement--in their normal course of duties, to arrest
illegal immigrants anywhere in the state for
trespassing, and commended conservative lawmakers for
tackling the issue.
"The Governor's pandering to the half million illegal
invaders of Arizona must come to a stop. Her opposition
to this bill is not about immigration or the
Constitution--but about re-election politics. It is no
coincidence that the governor vetoed this bill after
thousands of illegal aliens closed downtown Phoenix
demanding equal rights for lawbreakers and threatening
car bombings and other terrorist acts if a wall is built
to defend our sovereignty. This is the United States and
we have legal processes whereby good people can join and
be welcomed to our great nation. We don't need to pander
to those coming illegally," said Goldwater, whose lead
in statewide polls of the Republican field of candidates
continues to grow.
"Local law enforcement continues to be held hostage
by those that would handcuff our officers and allow
terrorists, drug dealers, and murderers to wander freely
throughout Arizona. If my hard working neighbor
trespasses on my property the police can arrest them but
they can't arrest an illegal alien drug dealer who is
trespassing? It is time to stop calling this an
immigration issue. This is an illegal invasion of our
border that does not discriminate on intent, race,
creed, sex, or religion. When the federal agents tested
the Canadian border several weeks ago it was the same
issue regardless of national origin or which border.
Will the Governor not allow local law enforcement to
arrest Al Qaeda illegally trespassing?"
“Legislators should be commended for their efforts to
address this problem. Legislative leadership showed true
patriotism in passing this bill,” Goldwater continued.
"Senator Barbara Leff, President Bennett, Speaker Weiers
and other legislators that supported this bill are true
patriots defending Arizona,” Goldwater proclaimed.
Goldwater continued his challenge to the Federal
Government to build a wall and called upon state leaders
to pressure the Federal Government to follow the
Constitution which requires them to protect the borders
of the U.S.: "Washington, we are being invaded. When
will you build us this wall and protect the U.S. and
Arizona?"
