Even the New York Times understands HB2577

PHOENIX –Don Goldwater today calls on Governor Napolitano to reverse her support of the invasion of Arizona. Governor Napolitano’s record-breaking veto of HB2577 demonstrates how our governor aids and abets the illegal invasion of our state. Her consistent pattern of pandering to the illegal community clearly shows that it is time for a change in the governor’s office. Arizona deserves a governor who will enforce our laws instead of giving political cover to those who want to destroy the rule of law.

As the leading Republican candidate for governor, I call on Governor Napolitano to spend her last six and a half months in office working for the legal citizens of this state. After fighting Proposition 200, sending a “brief” asking a judge to rule against the vote of the people of this state, and vetoing NINE bills to reduce illegal invasion of this state, she should reject that failed policy and spend her last few months in office performing her constitutional duties.

State Representative Russell Pearce, a Mesa Republican and the immigration bill's chief sponsor, said in an interview after the veto that he would try to put a similar measure on the November ballot. Mr. Pearce said Ms. Napolitano's veto showed that she was not serious about reducing illegal immigration. "She is the best friend an illegal alien has in this country," Mr. Pearce said.”
